IPL 2025: MS Dhoni Loses Cool After Shaik Rasheed’s Costly Error in CSK’s Loss to SRH

Chennai, April 26:It was a forgettable outing for young Chennai Super Kings (CSK) batter Shaik Rasheed during their IPL 2025 clash against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. The 20-year-old endured a poor day both with the bat and in the field, drawing a rare show of frustration from CSK captain MS Dhoni.

Rasheed was dismissed for a golden duck, falling to a sharp delivery from Mohammed Shami on the very first ball he faced. His troubles continued in the field during the eighth over of SRH’s innings. Positioned at extra cover, Rasheed made a poor decision to throw the ball at the stumps without backup in place. The wild throw allowed SRH's Ishan Kishan to pick up an extra run, a lapse that clearly annoyed the ever-composed Dhoni.

Television cameras captured Dhoni gesturing toward Rasheed, tapping his head to signal the need for better presence of mind—an unusual moment of visible disapproval from the veteran skipper.

The incident capped off an underwhelming performance by CSK, who were bowled out for 154 in 19.5 overs. Dewald Brevis, making his much-anticipated debut for the franchise, was the lone bright spot, scoring a quickfire 42 off 25 balls, including one four and four sixes. Opener Ayush Mhatre also chipped in with a brisk 30 off 19 deliveries.

SRH chased down the target with relative ease, finishing at 155 for 5 in 18.4 overs. Wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan top-scored with 44 off 34 balls, while Kamindu Mendis added a crucial 32 off 22. Left-arm spinner Noor Ahmad was the most successful bowler for CSK, picking up 2 wickets for 42 runs.

Harshal Patel starred with the ball for Hyderabad, claiming 4 wickets for just 28 runs in his four-over spell, helping to dismantle CSK’s middle order.

With just 46 runs from four matches this season, Rasheed now finds himself under mounting pressure as CSK looks to bounce back in upcoming fixtures.
