Kerala Woman Sentenced to Death for Brutal Murder of Boyfriend

Kerala, India: A woman from Kerala has been sentenced to death for the shocking murder of her 23-year-old boyfriend, Sharon Raj, in 2022. The convict, 24-year-old Greeshma, lured Raj to her home in Ramavarmanchirai, Tamil Nadu's Kanyakumari district, on October 14, 2022. There, she poisoned him with a toxic ayurvedic tonic laced with paraquat, a deadly herbicide. Raj fought for his life in a hospital for 11 days before succumbing to multiple organ failure on October 25, 2022.

Despite Greeshma’s plea for leniency, citing her academic background, clean criminal record, and status as her parents' only daughter, the court deemed her crime so severe that none of these factors were sufficient to alter her sentence. The 586-page verdict delivered a firm ruling on the gravity of the crime, and Greeshma was sentenced to death, with no relief granted.
