MMMOCL Rolls Out Comprehensive Monsoon Preparedness for Metro Lines 2A & 7

Mumbai, May 27, 2025 — In a bid to ensure uninterrupted metro services and passenger safety during the monsoon, the Maha Mumbai Metro Operations Corporation Limited (MMMOCL) has implemented an extensive monsoon preparedness plan for Metro Lines 2A and 7. Under the guidance of MMRDA Commissioner and MMMOCL Chairman Dr. Sanjay Mukherjee (IAS), and in alignment with the visionary leadership of Hon'ble Chief Minister Shri Devendra Fadnavis and Deputy Chief Minister & MMRDA Chairman Shri Eknath Shinde, the plan emphasizes reliability, safety, and seamless commuting for Mumbaikars.

Key Initiatives Under the Monsoon Plan:

  • Wind Velocity Anemometers have been installed at 10 major metro stations for real-time weather monitoring.

  • Increased metro frequency in water-logging-prone areas to reduce passenger waiting time.

  • 64 HD CCTV cameras at each station with round-the-clock monitoring for safety and security.

  • Emergency response coordination with BMC via a dedicated coach and direct hotline connectivity.

  • Critical equipment like DG sets, UPS systems, dewatering pumps, and lightning arresters tested and stationed at 30 stations and Charkop Depot.

  • Waterproofing checks completed for all 34 metro rakes to ensure leak-free operation during heavy rain.

  • Cleaned viaduct and drainage systems across 35 km, including gutters, pipes, saucer drains, and median chambers.

  • Preventive maintenance of 759+ electrical insulators and switchgear units to ensure system integrity.

On-Ground Measures & Emergency Readiness

Dedicated nodal officers are assigned to each metro project to oversee on-ground monsoon measures. Pumps and pothole repair vehicles are already deployed, and traffic wardens are stationed near metro stations to ensure smooth pedestrian and vehicular movement.

The 24x7 Monsoon Control Room is equipped with live monitoring and is connected to BMC’s disaster management cell. Emergency helplines (18008890505 / 0808 and 8452905434) remain active round-the-clock.

CM Shri Devendra Fadnavis said, “The government is committed to ensuring commuter safety and operational continuity during the rains. With these robust preparations, metro services will run reliably even in heavy downpours.”

Dy. CM Shri Eknath Shinde added, “These efforts reflect the state’s responsibility towards public convenience and safety.”

Dr. Sanjay Mukherjee highlighted that “standby rakes are ready to ensure uninterrupted services during any unexpected event.”

MMMOCL MD Rubal Agrawal (IAS) emphasized, “With a ‘safety-first’ approach, our team has worked diligently to prepare the metro system for the monsoon.”
