Mumbai Police Clamp Down: Prohibitory Orders Imposed January 9-23

Mumbai: The city police have issued prohibitory orders restricting the assembly of five or more people from January 9 to January 23, citing the potential for public disturbances. The order, effective from 12 a.m. on January 9 to 12 a.m. on January 23, prohibits gatherings, processions, and the use of loudspeakers, amplifiers, musical bands, or crackers.
While officials emphasized that the order is a routine preventive measure, the document notes concerns over possible breaches of peace and public tranquillity in Mumbai.
Exemptions include assemblies for weddings, funerals, cooperative society meetings, social or corporate gatherings, and government activities.
