Parel Set to Become Mumbai’s New Rail Hub with Terminus & Atal Setu Link

Mumbai: Parel is on track to become a major national rail hub, with the Union Budget 2025-26 allocating funds for a new express train terminus. Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced the plan, which includes direct Atal Setu connectivity after the demolition and upgradation of the Pradhadevi bridge.

The new terminus will integrate with the upcoming 5th and 6th rail lines between Kurla and Parel, easing congestion at CSMT and Dadar. Originally proposed in 2016, the project faced resistance due to the closure of the Parel rail workshop but is now moving forward with a revised budget of ₹500 crore.

Experts have welcomed the move, emphasizing the need for better access and smooth integration with other transport modes. The terminus will feature elevated platforms, stabling lines, a multi-purpose deck, and a wide approach road connecting to Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Road.

With enhanced connectivity and infrastructure, Parel is set to play a crucial role in Mumbai’s railway network, offering relief to overcrowded stations and improving long-distance travel.
