Shocking Attack on Elderly Couple by Domestic Workers in Andheri, Suspects Arrested in Hyderabad

Andheri (West):  In a horrifying incident in Mumbai’s Andheri (West) area on January 7, a group of four domestic workers, including a newly hired help, brutally assaulted their elderly employer and her sister before fleeing the city. The victims, Veena Bhatt (74) and Shobha Rekhari (74), were attacked in their high-rise apartment after lunch, with Bhatt suffering head injuries that required immediate medical attention.

The assailant, Ajay Mukhiya, had been employed just a day prior to the attack and attacked the victims using an iron pestle. When Rekhari intervened, she was also assaulted. Mukhiya and two accomplices were later apprehended in Hyderabad after turning on their phones, which led authorities to track them down.

The Amboli police have filed charges of robbery and attempted murder, though the full motive for the assault remains unclear. Police suspect that the four domestic workers—originally from Darbhanga, Bihar—had possibly conspired together. Surveillance footage from the building reveals their presence on the premises, raising further suspicions. The investigation continues, with officers awaiting further questioning of the suspects to determine if any valuables were taken.

The elderly couple is in distress, and authorities hope that the return of the suspects to Mumbai will reveal more about the chilling incident.
