Three Smugglers Arrested at Mumbai Airport, Gold Worth ₹92.13 Lakhs Seized

Mumbai : The Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) team arrested three smugglers at Mumbai Airport on the night of October 15-16, including an airport staff member. The AIU team seized gold worth ₹92.13 lakhs from them. In another case, a passenger arriving from Dubai was arrested at the airport, and 455 grams of gold dust, worth ₹33 lakhs, was found in the form of wax. Additionally, expensive mobile phones worth approximately ₹6.11 lakhs were confiscated.

According to sources from the Air Intelligence Unit, their team was tracking a transit passenger arriving from Dubai who was headed to Bangkok based on specific intelligence. The passenger was seen entering a restroom with an airport employee, raising suspicion. Upon stopping the employee and searching his undergarments, 1.27 kilograms of 24-carat gold dust was discovered, valued at ₹92,13,437. Following this, another passenger was also caught on the airport premises.

Both individuals confessed during interrogation that they had smuggled gold on two previous occasions. Subsequently, they were arrested under the provisions of the Customs Act, 1962. Similarly, another passenger was found with 455 grams of gold powder in wax form, valued at ₹33,00,880, along with expensive mobile phones worth ₹6,11,790. All three arrested smugglers are undergoing intense questioning.
