US Deports Over 100 Indian Migrants Amid Intensified Immigration Policies

Amritsar, India:  In a significant move under the U.S. government's tightened immigration policies, a military aircraft carrying 104 deported Indian migrants landed at Sri Guru Ram Dass Jee International Airport in Amritsar on Wednesday afternoon. The deportees, from states like Punjab, Haryana, and Gujarat, underwent thorough verification before being sent to their hometowns.

Among those deported were 19 women and 13 minors who endured harsh conditions, remaining shackled throughout the flight. Jaspal Singh, a 36-year-old from Punjab, shared his ordeal of being deceived by a travel agent, who charged ₹30 lakh for false promises of legal U.S. entry. Singh’s journey spanned Brazil and an illegal border crossing before he was arrested and detained by U.S. authorities for 11 days.

This mass deportation comes ahead of a scheduled meeting between President Donald Trump and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Washington. Migration remains a key issue between the two nations, with India emphasizing its strict stance against illegal immigration due to its links with organized crime.

According to the Pew Research Center, around 725,000 undocumented Indian immigrants reside in the U.S., making them the third-largest group after Mexicans and Salvadorans.
