US Justice dept charged Iranian man for plotting Trump's assassination

New Delhi : The US government has charged a man with plotting to assassinate Donald Trump before he took office as president. The US Justice Department on Friday issued an indictment against 51-year-old Farhad Shakeri. In this indictment, the Afghan citizen was accused of planning to assassinate Trump. The US government has said that Farhad Shakeri has not been arrested yet. It is believed that Shakeri is currently in Iran.

According to the US government, "The plot to assassinate Trump was hatched in Iran and charges have been filed against an Afghan citizen in this case." In a criminal complaint filed in Manhattan Court, it has been alleged that an officer of Iran's Revolutionary Guards had instructed Shakeri to prepare a plan to monitor and assassinate Trump in September.

US Attorney General Merrick Garland said in a statement, "The US regime has charged an Iranian man. He was given the task of plotting the assassination of Donald Trump and giving instructions to those involved in it." Apart from this, the Justice Department has also charged two more people in this case. Who were allegedly recruited to kill an American journalist, who was a vocal critic of Iran. On Thursday, they were produced in a New York court. At present, both of them are in police custody.
