Virar Man Arrested for Uploading Obscene Photos of Civic Officials

Mira Bhayander, India : The Mira Bhayander-Vasai Virar (MBVV) police have arrested 34-year-old Chandan Thakur for allegedly morphing and uploading obscene photos of an additional commissioner of Vasai Virar City Municipal Corporation (VVCMC) and 14 other civic officials on social media.

The Bolinj police registered an FIR on November 18 after the additional commissioner discovered morphed images of himself and his wife circulating in four social media groups focused in Latur, his native place. The posts were made from a profile named Kavya Mehta, which also sent taunting messages referencing the demolition of 41 illegal buildings in Vasai-Virar.

Investigations revealed that the accused, Chandan Thakur, had been involved in multiple defamation cases and had previously demanded money from officials in exchange for taking down social media posts. He was arrested on Thursday after police tracked his social media activity.

Authorities are now investigating whether Thakur had an accomplice assisting him with the online posts.
