COVID-19 Cases Rise: KDMC Sets Up Isolation Beds Amid Renewed Concerns

Mumbai, June 12 : With a noticeable rise in COVID-19 cases across Maharashtra, the Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) has taken swift action by preparing 15 isolation beds in two civic hospitals to tackle any potential surge in infections.
According to the Public Health Department, Maharashtra reported 107 new COVID-19 cases on June 11, raising the total number of infections in 2024 to 1,700. Additionally, two more fatalities were reported, bringing the total COVID-related deaths in the state this year to 21.
Out of the new cases, Mumbai recorded 34, while Kalyan-Dombivli accounted for one. Other areas that reported cases include Thane district (1), Thane Municipal Corporation (7), Navi Mumbai (5), Pune district (4), Pune Municipal Corporation (44), Pimpri Chinchwad (7), Sangli (1), Sangli Municipal Corporation (2), and Nagpur Municipal Corporation (1).
In response, KDMC has set up 10 isolation beds at Bai Rukmini Bai Hospital and 5 at Shastri Nagar Hospital. The civic body has also ensured that COVID-19 testing kits are readily available at these facilities. KDMC Commissioner Abhinav Goyal appealed to the public to remain calm and urged anyone showing symptoms to report them promptly and responsibly.
As part of its monsoon emergency preparedness, KDMC has activated a 24x7 control room, monitored by officers at the deputy commissioner level during night hours. Emergency departments will continue functioning at the ward level, with assistance from multi-disciplinary teams. Additionally, an NDRF team is deployed to support disaster response and awareness drives.
Beyond healthcare measures, KDMC is also focusing on education. By 2025–26, the civic body plans to establish five new semi-English schools with designated guardian officers to oversee education quality. The implementation of the BaLA (Building as Learning Aid) model is improving school infrastructure with murals and interactive learning spaces. Meanwhile, the Nipun program is being used to strengthen primary education through digital tracking and support.
KDMC’s proactive steps reflect growing concerns around COVID-19’s resurgence and show a commitment to both public health and long-term community development.
