New Delhi:Flood waters in several regions of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh have begun to recede as both states experience a lull in heavy rain, providing some respite to the affected areas. Despite the decrease in rainfall intensity, state governments are pressing forward with extensive relief operations to aid those impacted by the recent deluge.
Andhra Pradesh, which faced significant rainfall over the past four days, is particularly hard-hit. Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan emphasized the need for focused attention on Vijayawada, stating, “Special attention needs to be given to Vijayawada. We have deployed 262 Panchayati Raj teams for relief and rehabilitation efforts.” The state has seen an extensive impact, with 4,15,171 people affected by the flooding. In response, the Andhra Pradesh Government has relocated 43,417 individuals to 163 relief camps throughout the state and established 197 medical camps to address health concerns.
In Telangana, the Indian Meteorological Department has issued a heavy rain alert for Wednesday, September 4, 2024, covering four districts: Adilabad, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Khammam, and Mahabubabad. The forecast includes thunderstorms with lightning and strong surface winds in isolated areas within these districts.
The recent heavy rainfall has led to severe flooding in areas such as Miyapur and Alwal. In response, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has commenced efforts to clear water stagnation points to mitigate further disruptions.
The ongoing relief operations aim to provide immediate assistance and support to those affected while preparing for potential future challenges as weather conditions evolve.
