Ranveer Allahbadia Approaches Supreme Court Seeking Clubbing of FIRs Over 'India’s Got Latent' Remark

New Delhi February 14, 2025 :YouTuber and popular podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia has moved the Supreme Court seeking the clubbing of multiple FIRs filed against him following his controversial comments on the YouTube show India’s Got Latent.
Allahbadia's lawyer made the mention before Chief Justice of India (CJI) Sanjiv Khanna, who has assured that the case will be listed for hearing soon. The issue arose after Allahbadia asked a deeply inappropriate question to a contestant on the show: “Watch your parents have sex every day for the rest of your life, or join in once and stop it forever?” The remark, which quickly went viral, sparked outrage on social media, leading to widespread condemnation.
In response to the controversy, the Maharashtra Cyber Department filed an FIR against Allahbadia, comedian Samay Raina, and other members of the India’s Got Latent panel. The FIR alleges that the content created during the show was obscene and offensive. The Cyber Department has also called for the removal of all 18 episodes of the show, which have been deemed vulgar for containing inappropriate language and sexually explicit discussions.
Alongside the FIR in Maharashtra, Assam Police has issued fresh summons to Allahbadia and fellow YouTuber Ashish Chanchlani, both of whom were part of the episode in question. On February 10, Guwahati Police filed an FIR against the content creators for “promoting obscenity” and engaging in explicit and vulgar discussions. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma voiced his concerns over the incident, underscoring the severity of the issue.
In the aftermath, Allahbadia issued a public apology, acknowledging his poor judgment in making the inappropriate joke. Meanwhile, Samay Raina, another key figure in the show, removed all episodes of his program from his YouTube channel, which had garnered millions of views. Raina expressed his discomfort with the unfolding situation but assured his followers and the authorities that he would fully cooperate with investigations.
As the legal proceedings unfold, the controversy continues to spark a debate on the limits of comedy and the responsibilities of content creators in the digital age. The Supreme Court's upcoming hearing will likely set a precedent on the handling of similar cases involving digital media and public backlash.
